Now I don't suppose that you've found your way to this page if you would describe yourself as an atheist... but if you are someone who has serious doubts about the existence of God, then why not take a look at this scientific site - click here.
LAMININ - THE GLUE THAT HOLDS US TOGETHER
Perhaps you have heard about Laminin... or perhaps not. Laminins
are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue' Laminin is what hold us together... literally. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would fall apart.
As Christians we worship an inconceivably BIG God... He spoke the universe into being... He also knit out bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. In the Bible God reveals to us that we can trust the One
who created all that we can see as well as that which we cannot see. He also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart... the Bible speaks of our loving Creator as our sustainer.
What, you may be thinking, has all this to do with Laminins? I wonder if you know what Laminin looks like? Go on, do an image search in Google for the word Laminin... you will be given a whole selection of pictures to look at... the pictures will show you what the structure of Laminin looks like - this glue that holds us together - and perhaps it will make you think... and hopefully wonder?
St Paul wrote this in Colossians (1:15-17)
He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Perhaps when you look again at the Google results... you may read those verses in a completely new way. I think it wonderful that thousands of years before anyone knew what the structure of Laminin looked like, Paul was inspired to write those verses. Now, thousands of years later we see that quite literally, we are held together - one cell to another, by something that looks like... ... go on, Google!

Carl Tidy works as a graphic designer in the south coast town of Worthing. Early in the morning on 13 January 2005, he was searching for inspiration for a poster he was designing for churches, and stepped outside for some fresh air. When he looked up, he had the surprise of his life.
There, high above him in the blue sky, were clouds which looked strikingly like Jesus on the cross. "I was frozen to the spot and couldn't quite believe what I was seeing," says Carl. "I must admit there was more than a hint of feeling scared as well. It was one of those moments when you can almost feel your heart sinking to the bottom of your stomach, because you can't really take in what is happening."
Carl had the presence of mind to run indoors and grab his camera. Take a look at the resulting image which is exactly as he photographed it, without any editing or digital enhancement.
Says Carl: "It's not the kind of thing you experience every day, especially on the scale that it was. It seemed to cover a large area of sky and was by no means subtle, as the photo shows."
So was this just a random event, or was it sent by God in some way? Carl believes that at some level, God has a hand in creating all seemingly random events, no matter how obscure. He said "Whether or not this was a heaven-sent, divine cloud painting by God, or just a striking accident of two planes crossing paths behind a cloud formation, I can't really say. All I can tell you is that I was glad I was there to see it in person, and fortunate enough to have a camera around so I could share the image with others." He adds: "Even if it was a totally random event, it still made me think about the bigger picture, and how great God is. Hopefully it will have the same effect on others who see it as well."
CAUSE AND EFFECT by Jim Taylor
The overtly religious society of our past would have called earthquakes "acts of God." No doubt some commentators still do when they happen. When you define your deity as Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, through whom all things exist and by whom all things are done, who else can you blame?
Unfortunately, we do seem to need to lay blame, to hold someone responsible. Perhaps finding someone to blame reflects an increasingly secular society's pseudo-scientific mindset -- if there's an effect, there must be a cause. And there have been a lot of those effects in recent years. Five of the 20 most destructive earthquakes in history have happened in the last decade. In just the last seven years, major earthquakes have occurred in Indonesia (2004); Pakistan (2005); Peru (2007); China (2008); Samoa (2009); Haiti and Chile (2010); and two fairly recently in New Zealand and Japan. Are they connected? I would say yes... but not as some kind of master plan, inflicted on humans by a punitive deity, or by malevolent nature. They're connected because the tectonic plates that make up the skin of the planet are all connected.
As you know, the Earth's surface consists of vast continental and oceanic plates that move constantly, like ice floes. As they grind against each other, tension and pressure build. Until something snaps. Then we have an earthquake.
Seismologists initially warned that the Japanese earthquake increased the risk of an earthquake off Vancouver Island. Later they downgraded their warnings but I think their warning makes sense. Every major earthquake alters the equilibrium of the whole planet. Some grinding edges have pressures eased, whereas others have it increased.
Did the readjustment under New Zealand affect the interlock off Japan? There's no scientific proof that it did. But why wouldn't it? Earthquakes are not isolated events. The whole planet is interconnected... and that's my point.
Life is not a carefully controlled laboratory experiment. Every action -- including earthquakes -- spreads a ripple of reactions. Tiny inputs can have huge consequences. We have all heard that in the Chaos Theory, a butterfly's wings may alter the path of a hurricane. A one-cent rise in Canadian wheat prices can overthrow a government in Africa. There are no boundaries. This planet is all we have. We are all of us responsible... for everything.
